The International Feature Film Competition for Teenagers and Youth Now in Two Categories
This year we have decided to divide the original competition for youth into two full-fledged categories: for younger youth from 12 to 14 years of age and for older youth from 15 and up. Each of the sections contains 6 films, in addition to which two of them are now also animated.
We were led to this decision by an effort to distinguish the content intended for our young viewers more sensitively and meaningfully. In short, you need to go with the times and respond to the changing mental maturity of the audience. You may be surprised, but young people are tackling similar problems in Europe, Asia and America. However, it always depends on the cultural, social and historical background of our young heroes. And it is this diversity that is very valuable and allows festival goers to see the lives of teenagers in Japan, Canada, Iran, Great Britain, Russia, Ireland, Brazil, South Korea, Switzerland, and Germany.
Of particular interest are two animated films (a Czech film, A Colourful Dream, and a French film with Czech participation (The Crossing), which equally deal with the topic of an authoritarian society and the loss of freedom – concepts that our children have not experienced. However, we consider it all the more important to share them with them.
Eleven of the twelve films will be shown to our viewers for the first time in the Czech Republic and for the most part also for the last time, which is unfortunately often the fate of festival films.
So do not hesitate and come to the cinema!
