We Are Very Excited - Electra, a Film We Supported, Is Competing at the Prestigious Cannes Film Festival!
The new Czech student film Electra by Daria Kashcheeva has been a huge success. It was selected by the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival as one of the 16 films that will compete for the Best Student Short Film award this year. In addition, it will be presented in the same country at the Annecy International Animation Festival. Our joy is all the greater because we were able to financially support the production of the film thanks to the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation. Congratulations!
This year, the Cannes Film Festival organizers had to choose from a total of 2,000 entries from all over the world. Electra, a visual wild poem by Daria Kashcheeva, was among the sixteen selected for the La Cinef Selection section.
"Daria Kashcheeva won countless awards for her previous film, including a student Oscar, so she certainly felt obliged to a certain extent not to disappoint with this one. Electra's participation at the most prestigious festivals is proof that she has met expectations perfectly and that her talent is truly extraordinary. It is a great pleasure and honor for us to participate in projects that give Czech film a good name,"
said Markéta Pášmová, member of the board of the FILMTALENT Zlín Foundation.
The filmmaker used stop motion and pixilation animation techniques, which she combined with live action scenes. For the plot of the film, she was inspired by psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. Her Electra relives her tenth birthday and mixes memories with dreams. She delves deeper into her childhood memories, going through her most painful periods in order to give vent to her repressed feelings.
The Cannes Festival will take place from May 16 to 27, the Annecy Festival from June 11 to 17.
Every year, the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation announces a competition for financial support of audiovisual projects for students and young emerging filmmakers, helping to bring new Czech films to the world, which represent them with excellent results both at home and abroad. The funds to support these film projects are raised from the public auction of the Clapperboard Salon, which is a traditional part of the Zlín Film Festival. The FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation is open to original feature films, animated films, and those bordering on documentary.
