International Ecumenical magazine dedicated to the Zlin Film Festival
Festival guests arrive with all sorts of wonderful presents to thank the festival staff, but Ecumenical Jury member Guido Convents (Belgium) brought a particularly nice present to Zlin. On the occasion of the 59th Zlin Film Festival, and 20 years of Ecumenical Juries in the festival, he dedicated an entire issue of the magazine CineMag to children’s film, and to the Zlin Film Festival in particular.
Since 20 years SIGNIS engages with media professionals and supports Catholic Communicators. Children in relation to cinema has always been one of SIGNIS’s major concerns, which explains their presence at some of the biggest children’s film festivals. The Ecumenical Jury in the Zlin Film Festival celebrates its 20th edition this year, and also in Schlingel (Chemnitz, Germany) and in Divercine (Montevideo, Uruguay) a SIGNIS jury is represented. Guido Convents: “I’m very happy to be in the Ecumenical Jury this year. This connection with the Zlin Festival has been ongoing for such a long time and we’re really proud to be welcomed at a festival with such a great tradition.”
That appreciation is mutual, as Guido Convents is quoting Festival President Cestmir Vancura regarding one of the most important missions of the Zlin Film Festival: “to develop the aesthetic, social, and moral feelings of the young audience.”
CineMag is a brand new magazine. Its 2nd and recently published edition is entirely dedicated to the topic of children’s film. The magazine reports about the impressive track record of films awarded by the Ecumenical Jury in Zlin over the last 20 years (including amazing titles like BOYS by Mischa Kamp, ABULELE by Jonathan Geva and SUPA MODO by Likarion Wainaina), about this year’s Zlin film selection, and about children’s cinema in the Czech Republic. This edition was published on the occasion of the Zlin Film Festival and is being distributed to 130 countries.
Furthermore, the magazine offers an entrance into the extensive and far-reaching SIGNIS network that is not only represented at the festivals but that is actively involved in media education around the globe, including in Latin America, for example via boxes with films travelling from school to school, with accessory study guides.
Guido Convents will distribute this issue of CineMag in a limited edition during the Zlin Film Festival.
The Zlin Film Festival wants to express its sincere appreciation for this SIGNIS initiative, and for the dedication shown by Guido Convents.
