Zlín Film Festival spends its money well!
The Zlín Film Clapperboard Salon is where art lovers and cinephiles meet. For the 22nd consecutive time, this year again Film Clapperboards painted by renown, loyal artists will be sold in an auction on 26 May 2019 during the Zlín Film Festival.
Through the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation this money will be re-invested to provide a support to Czech and Slovak young start-ups in the field of cinema, student filmmakers and other film-related projects in a social or educational context. Over the years over 350 projects have been supported with a total sum exceeding € 1,2 million. This investment is a vote of confidence from devoted festival supporters and art lovers – it is “your money” and we want to guarantee that it is spent well. In 2018 the Filmtalent Zlín Foundation supported 22 film projects to the tune of over € 60.000 (CZK 1.549 million). These are some of the projects that received support through the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation in the previous years:
- Among these projects was the short animated film The Kite (Pouštět draka) by Martin Smatana, premiering at the Berlinale’s Generation Section. This beautifully told tale about “remembering those who are no longer there” gained worldwide acclaim. The most acclaimed festival of animated films in Annecy chose The Kite for this year´s edition too.
- The FAMU student film One Hundred and Twenty Eight Thousand by Ondřej Erban has won Magnesia Award for the Best Student Film at the annual national Czech Lions Awards.
- The animated documentary The Little One (Malá) by Diana Cam Van Nguyen, toured the international festivals enchanting audiences with both its story and visual style. The film won a main award at the This Human World festival (Vienna) and was nominated for the ECFA Documentary Awards. Short animated film The Fishermen (Rybáři) by Bára Anna Stejskalová's was selected for the prestigious BAFTA Awards (UK) and won a Student Jury Award at the Uruguay International Film School Festival.
- The short film Every Second (Každou vteřinu), directed by Amalia Kovářová participated in various international festivals. So did Greta Stocklassa’s remarkable documentary Kiruna – A Brand New World, about the re-location of a Swedish mining town and the consequences for its inhabitants. The film got selected for the prestigous Swiss festival Visions du Réel.
- Michal Blaško considers his short film Victim a study for his feature film-in-the-making, for which he got invited to ‘L’atelier’ where the Cannes Film Festival fosters “particularly promising projects”.
- It’s not only about film making! The tastefully designed NaFilm museum offers young visitors a new learning experience in a cosy building right in the Prague city centre (check www.nafilm.org for more information) and is a must-visit for families with children of all ages.
A world premiere at the Berlinale, participation in international film competitions and festivals, a series of nominations and awards… The achievements of the student film projects supported by the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation are clearly not to be underestimated!
Again this year approx. 150 mainly Czech respectable artists will provide in a fantastic collection of artistically rendered film clapperboards, that will be presented to you in the auction on Sunday, 26 May 2019 at the Congress Center in Zlín. On 28 May the FILMTALENT ZLÍN Foundation will select the film projects eligible for support in 2019. Students and fledging filmmakers can still enter their works till 30 April 2019. The Zlín Film Festival – International Film Festival for Children and Youth is the oldest and, currently, largest film festival of its kind in the world. The festival’s mission is to present a wide range of high-quality international film productions for children and teenagers and to make them accessible to a young audience. An important aspect of the festival is to develop the young audience’s aesthetic, social, and moral feelings, and to expand their awareness of the outside world.
