CANDIDATES FOR GOLDEN SLIPPER – PART II

This time we will take a tour of the children's film section.

This time we will take a tour of the children's film section.

An international premier of Canadian ice hockey film Les Pee-Wee 3D: L'hiver qui a changé ma vie (Pee-Wee 3D: The Winter that Changed My Life) directed by Éric Tessier will take place. Zlín will be therefore able to continue in its euphoria created by recently finished finals of the Czech Ice Hockey Extra-League. And what story can you expect? After the tragic death of his mother, 12 year old Canadian ice hockey prodigy Janeau moves away with his father to a small town. Here he meets Julie, a goal keeper of the local female team who sees Jeaneau as the means of getting to the renowned international youth tournament called Pee-Wee. Janeau's talents and skills which amaze everyone around are not to Joey's liking as he was the best player of the team until the rookie's arrival. Janeau has to deal not only with Joey's spiteful actions but also with the relationship with his alienated father as well as winning the tournament finals against the massive Russian team.  This ice hockey children's movie has all the aces up its sleeve alongside the hockey atmosphere enhanced by 3D technology. The leading actors are Antoine Pilon as Janeau and Alice Morel-Michaud as goalkeeper and team captain Julie. Both actors can be known from last year's competitive movie Frisson des collines (Frisson). Pee Wee, Winter that Changed My Life will open the 53rd Zlín Film Festival at its grand opening.

Let's stay with sport, although of completely different sort. Kiwi Flyer directed by Tony Simpson is a Dutch film which will take you among downhill cart racers of different types and performances. The main character is 12 year old Ben who decides to take part in this renowned cart race and as homage to his recently late father, former champion, he wants to win. However, he is not aware that the journey towards happy ending will subject him to a battle with treacherous competitors as well as with his mother who is not happy with his involvement in the race. Kiwi Flyer is a joyful children'smovie from attractive environment, with comical characters and nail biting moments.  It is simply one big race in an original cart called Kiwi.

The third sports pick will take us on a bike ride specifically to the Belgian film Allez, Eddy! (Go Eddy, Go!) from a debut director Gert Embrechts. This touching comedy is about 11 years old Freddy who is a cycling fan and lives in a butcher's family in a village of no man's land.  Freddy's sheltered life in a closed off village is disturbed by the arrival of the first supermarket. A part of the supporting programme of this opening event is a bike race whose winner will meet with the winner of Tour de France Eddy Merckx who is Freddys idol. However, the boy's father who is passionately against supermarkets does not even want to hear about any race. Freddy is not discouraged as the participation in the race opens doors to a new world not only to him but others around as well.

As it is apparent from the introduction of these three sports movies the audience of this year's children's film competition will definitely not be bored. Action, tension and humour will be plentiful.
