Half-Kurd half-Turkish Veyse fled from Turkey to Austria with his family and has only been in Vienna for a few months. He’s stressed because his lack of German makes him an outsider and his older brother Mazlum has run away from home. Fortunately, he’s found distraction in Ana, a girl in his class. Macondo is a refugee settlement in Vienna with about 3,000 asylum-seekers from 22 different countries. One of them is 11-year-old Ramasan who has come here from Chechnya with his mother and two younger sisters. Fatherless, he tries his best to take his father’s place looking after his family.
