A lecture on the Digital restoration project of the Czech film heritage. What is digital restoration? Why is it necessary to digitize films that originated on photographic material and exist that way until today? And what should we imagine when we hear the term digital cinema? Jeanne Pommeau, Tereza Frodlová and David Ernst of the National Film Archive will present the Digital restoration of the Czech film heritage project, that has already restored fourteen films and film programs in the course of this year and the last year. Using concrete examples, they will present not only the methods and procedures of digital restoration, but also the questions and dilemmas that are associated with digitization. The lecture will be accompanied by detailed excerpts from the recently completed digitally restored films.
