Sex, TikTok & TV: Current trends in young adult productions

Sat 03.06 | 17:00, Zlín Congress Centre

5 pm - 6:30 pm / Congress Centre, Small Hall

Young adult productions have been a growing trend in (not only) European series production for the last decade or so. From the international success of Norway's SKAM to the emergence of independent channels aimed at teenage audiences, we can observe the growing influence and potential of productions for teenage audiences, which is reflected in the number of successful domestic series titles. What themes are trending in young adult productions, what determines the choice of subject matter for Czech producers, and is the target audience in Gen Z an unexpected challenge for filmmakers? In the age of TikTok and the streaming wars, what appeals to and wins audiences? And is linear television dead?

We will discuss the current European productions for teens from the perspective of producers' visions and their creative successes and crises with TV producer and head of development at TV Nova and Voyo Michal Reitler, creative producer at Czech Television Veronika Slámová, director and showrunner of TBH Lucie Kajánková, and the creators of the series Sex O'Clock.

The debate is moderated by Jana Čížkovská, dramaturg of acquisitions for Czech Television, festival curator, and film publicist.

Admission for accredited film professionals only.
