Salt Over Gold (1982) 10

There’s a tournament in which knights are fighting for the three daughters of King Pravoslav. As Vanda’s and Barbora’s suitors are beating their opponents, Marie escapes into the garden to meet her secret love, the son of the King of the Underworld. Her father wants to pass the crown to the daughter who loves him most. Vanda and Barbora speak of gold and jewelry; Marie talks of her love of salt. Offended, he has Marie taken from the palace and humiliates the Salt Prince. The King of the Underworld curses the kingdom and turns all the salt into gold.

Biography

A Slovak director and screenwriter. He debuted with the film As the Crow Flies (1962). His multi-genre works include the psychological Defender's Case (1964), the romantic Eagle's Feather (1971) and the historical drama Signum Laudis (1980). He later filmed in the Czech Republic, e.g. Castle in Bohemia (1993).
