Three Veterans (1983)
Three retired soldiers, the gunner Pankrac, dragoon Bimbác and military cook Servác, have been released from the army without pay and they wonder the world. When good-hearted elves give then magical gifts, they ponder on how to best make use of them. In the end, they set off together for the kingdom of Monte Albo, where Bimbác falls in love with Princess Bosana. Though Bosana is beautiful, she is also evil. She gradually robs them of their gifts and has them driven out. While she and the king rejoice in all of the money they'll be able to make with the magical items, it takes the soldiers a while to realize what is truly the most important thing in the world for them...

Biography
Oldřich Lipský (1924 - 1986) was a screenwriter and director. He left the Theatre of Satire (which he co-founded) for the Barrandov studios. Enchanted by the circus, the made his debut with the film The Circus Will Be (Cirkus bude!, 1954), which he followed with the films Six Bears and a Clown (Šest medvědů s Cibulkou, 1972) and in Circus in the Circus (Cirkus v cirkuse, 1975). He further added his comedic talent to the film parodies Lemonade Joe (Limonádový Joe, 1964) and Four Murders Are Enough, Darling (Čtyři vraždy stačí, drahoušku, 1970), the comedy Marecek, Pass Me the Pen! (Marečku, podejte mi pero! 1976) and the fairytale Three Veterans (Tři veteráni, 1983).
