Californie (2021)
A unique coming-of-age story filmed over the course of five years of life of Moroccan girl Jamila (from 9 to 14 years of age) who lives in a port city in southern Italy. Rebellious, feisty and street-smart, Jamila has a lot of potential. However, she has to deal with a difficult life. Her mother loses her job and Jamila drops out from middle school. The dream of returning one day to her home country and her job at “Californie” beauty salon push the girl forward.

Biography
Writers & directors. Working together since 2015, Cassigoli had previously directed TV documentaries, while Kauffman worked in the Middle East as a journalist. Together, they directed the documentaries The Things We Keep (2017) and Butterfly (2018). Drama California (2021) is their feature-length debut.
