In 1940, Jules and his family move to rural Canada. The boy soon realizes that he and his uncle, the local mayor, don’t get along. He takes him to the attic room, where Jules settles in to his satisfaction. He discovers a dusty book about native Americans, which he then almost never puts down. It opens a completely new world to him. After being expelled from school for fear of his rare skin disease, his only friend is the dog Sparky. When he visits the local forest, Jules meets an indigenous girl named Asha, strikingly similar to the one from the recently discovered book. Isolated from the outside world, the boy is given the opportunity to embark on an adventurous journey through the Canadian wilderness to find Ash's Mesquaki tribe and cure his illness. The film is not only a picturesque tale of courage, imagination and unusual friendship, but also an excursion into the lives of Canada's indigenous people.

So begins the story of Michel Kichka's Jewish family. He plays pranks on his younger brother Charly, teases his sister, who can't wait to get out of her parents' sight, and talks back to his mother at the dinner table. It introduces us to the environment of the Jewish community in a Belgian town in 1959. Through his childlike perspective, he also tries to figure out what it means when people talk about his father's stay in a war camp. What does the number on his forearm mean? What scared him when their tickets were checked on the train? What happened in a place called Auschwitz? This animated film is another cinematic reflection on the Holocaust, this time based on Michel Kichka's autobiographical comic The Things I Didn't Tell My Father.

When they visit camps where millions died, hear Joseph's stories, and watch the musical Fiddler on the Roof on a bus, their lives change. But it is not the tragic past of their nation that brings about change; it is mainly the journey itself. The teens are out of school, out of the country, and out of order. They are more aware of who they are and what is important to them.
