InfoIf childhood were a place, where would it be? Children take us on a trip into their inner landscapes. On their journey, they deal with topics such as friendship, belonging, love and the fear of not succeeding at school in an inspiring and intriguing way. In our search for the essence and mystery of childhood, we found children who deeply touched us: Wisdom, a German boy with Cameroonian heritage; Joline, a girl who never wants to grow up; Elias, who has been diagnosed with autism; and Roya, who fled from Iran to Germany five years ago. They wrote and performed their own music, contributed their pictorial ideas, drawings and stories as the initial position for the dramaturgy and image composition for the film. Though all are very different, they have one thing in common: they do not fit into the framework of our function-driven society.

Senegal stands for the global water crisis, Indonesia for plastic waste pollution, India for the agricultural crisis, and in Australia we witness the fatal destruction in the oceans and on land through climate change. All of the girls have the resilience and courage to fight back and the power to imagine a better future for all of us.

Their goal is to win, but they cannot all bring the trophy home.

Very fond of each other, they film themselves, comparing and giving one another support. They also tend to annoy one another, are at times envious, even rejecting each other. What is it like for a little girl to grow up in a world of professional and competitive dancing? Closely following the emotions and dilemmas experienced by our young characters, we get to explore a world we’ve all navigated, though many of us have forgotten – the world of childhood.

An animated documentary tells the personal story of its director, Ilze, about her growing up in Cold-War USSR – about choices a girl has to make in a very young age, then getting wiser and finding the courage to speak out. It is an exciting coming-of-age story about finding one’s own identity, truth, and loyalty. First, we meet Ilze as a little girl playing war at her granddad ́s farm, then she is faced with the horror of war threats at school. Ilze lives in a clash between Soviet reality and state propaganda denying what people actually experience. Moreover, Ilze also finds out how opposite in their beliefs are people whom she loves the most.

Many children have no idea where the food on their plates comes from. Some may say from the grocery store or supermarket... In The Netherlands, school gardens in one form or another have been a feature of school life for over 100 years. The first ones were created at the turn of the twentieth century with the aim of tackling child poverty and in particular poor nutrition. The tradition continues to this day, and while most children no longer suffer from a lack of food, being introduced to a healthy diet remains as relevant as ever. Each child learns how to sow, grow and cook their own food – skills that will last them a lifetime. What better ways is there to fight obesity and and learn about the importance of biodiversity?
