People in the town of Pytlov, at the foot of Pervidle Hill, have no idea that all their sins are being catalogued by the local branch of Hell - written down by the Magic Quill. When it stops working, Lucifer entrusts the devil Boniface to deliver a new quill to the Pervidle Branch. He sets off for Pytlov, where a local crook steals the quill.
